Valparaíso is a unique city, its 42 hills rearing up from the sea with a haphazard splendour that defies all logic; a crazy vertical city of colour and contrasts, fabled among sailors of bygone times and muse to poets and artists still.

Our neighbourhood (Cerro Alegre) is a UNESCO world heritage site with its historic mansions and fine walks and views. There are dozens of cafes together with art galleries, street art and workshops as well as friendly bars and innovative restaurants.

Historic trolleybuses ply the centre while in the hills you can visit Pablo Neruda's house La Sebastiana. Journey up and down in age old funiculars, or for an alternative view of the city hire a sea kayak or take a boat trip around the bay.

Valparaíso is Chile´s culture capital, so there are plenty of interesting events and activities throughout the year, from tango, film, theatre, music and dance festivals to hair-raising urban downhill mountain bike races and the famous New Year firework display
